Remote Tip for Media Jukebox 8.0.308
« on: June 25, 2002, 08:32:45 am »

Several people have requested a way to play a smartlist or a device in Media Jukebox with their remote.  In the latest build (8.0.308 -- available shortly), this is now possible.

You can play any tree location or device via the command line.  So, you can setup Media Scheduler, Girder, or whatever else you're using to perform these commands.

To play a file: (this has always worked)
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\mjextman.exe /Play "c:\1.mp3"

To play some location in the tree: (new)
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\mjextman.exe /Play "TREEPATH=Playlists\Top Hits"

To play a specific device: (new)
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\mjextman.exe /Play "DEVICE=G"

Just wanted to pass this along...

Thanks.

Cool.  Now how about having MJ8 change playlists at a certain time of day?  The playlists would filter out songs that have already been played.

Scronch, you can do it with smartlists and media scheduler.  I'm too lazy to go into details, but you could rig it up with a little elbow grease...

OK, that does it! I'm going to register! The limit on six refreshs almost had me out of it, but I was one of the people asking for this function, so now I'll put my money where my mouth is!

Oh, yes, I'm still waiting for that multi zone playback...

Glad to hear it Mastiff.

And don't worry about the restores.  We're not trying to con people out of money by making them buy the program twice -- we just need to have some protection against license abuse.

Take care.

Wow this is more great news....

You guys are really listening to our oddball requests?

For any pronto owners out there if you look on remote central there are some tools for creating CD changer controls with spreadsheets... If you use the Web remote plug in MJ will make a HTML page with album lists... This can then be made a XLS (via office) and in turn incorporated into a CCF pronto file...

Although this is guesswork getting girder to fire the above commands should be trivial and so all the pieces of a Pronto controlled album browser are there if the user will put in a little maintainance...

I hope these direct commands work with an APL same as example 1 ??

This is very handy for one-touch playlists. But it doesn't work if MJ is already running. I often leave it active after a playlist is finished, so this limits its usefulness.

I think you mis-understood the usage of the tool. This tool sends commands to MJB while it is running. I always have MJB running and I can use mjextman.exe to send messages to it (like play this play list). This is great for remote controlling.

Anyone have a complete list of supported codes from the girder interface?

Is there any way to toggle between full screen Visul. and reg. via remote on a large screen tv, without having to move the curser.
Say a ctrl ??
Thanks

I wasn't looking for anything in particular.  Mainly ideas.  I love automating things, and if I see what's available, I'll get ideas.

Thanks for the web page w/documentation.  I'll be reading it.

Hey JRiver,

Would you please update the MJExtMan DocPage http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/DevZone/CommandLine.html with this new info.

I just bookmarked this page in addition for now but it'd help the next guy

thanks
