Plug-ins not installing
« on: June 25, 2002, 06:37:07 am »

I have been trying to add a few plug-ins to my MJ 8:
Slide Show 1.0.10
DFX 6.1.15
Album View 1.0.3

When I click on the installs from the MJ plug-in page, I get the message that the plug-in installed:
"Package was successfully installed"
However, when I go back to MJ, the plug-in is not there.
When I click the "Add Plug-in" button, I can't find the new plug-in files, but I'm not sure what to look for.

Could this be because I did not follow the default installation directory for MJ?
I used "c:\program files\media jukebox" and by-passed the J River directory.

Please help!  These plug-ins look pretty cool as do many others I wouldn't mind trying.

Slide Show will be under Display.  Click on the |PLS| symbol to expand the tree.

To activate it, start playing, switch to Playing Now and use the right or left arrow on the Display Window's menu bar to switch from Visualization or Track Info to Slide Show.  Then right click on the screen to configure.

Even after installing successfully, it doesn't show up in the display tree.  That's my problem.

We're looking at this.  Can you see if you can find the files?  They may be in the Program Files/JRiver directory.

We can't duplicate this problem.

Are you running as a user who has permissions to write to the registry?

Try a search for the file called slideshow.dll.

Try uninstalling MJ and reinstalling the full version (9MB).

I have a local C drive and a NEO Jukebox removable USB Drive (From SSI America - I've seen many manufacturers of this player - not sure why).  I searched them both for slideshow.dll but could not find it.

I uninstalled MJ 8 then re-installed using typical installation.
Naturally, this created the J River directory.
I tried to install the plug-in again and got the same results.
I searched again for slideshow.dll and could not find it.
I uninstalled again and put it back in Program Files\Media Jukebox so now I have both directory structures.
I tried to install the Slide Show again and get the same results.

I have admin rights to this computer.  It's my laptop:
Dell Inspiron 8100
256 Meg memory
1 Gig Pentium III
30 Gig HD

I am logged in on a Company domain/network

I also searched the Registry for "Slide Show" and found Four entries, but no file information.
Here are the Registry screen shots:

Are you using IE to download and install the plug-ins?  If not, try that.

If that doesn't work

uninstall/removing registry entries/reboot/reinstall.

uninstall both copies.

then reinstall.

Something isn't right.

I don't know what's up, but I've tried everything I can think of.

I have been using IE to install the plug-in.
I go to Settings - Plug-in Manager...
Then highlight Display (default) then click the link Display Plug-ins Page
Then I click the only link on the page for Slide Show "Download for v.8"
It downloads something and shows the progress bar (very quickly) then shows the message:
"Package was successfully installed."
I click OK then expand the Display on the Manage Plug-ins screen but it always just shows Track Info and Visualizations.
If I exit then re-open MJ, it still isn't there.
If I re-boot then open MJ it's also not there.

I uninstalled MJ completely.  Library files and all (after backing up my library of course).
Then I deleted both directory trees:
c:\program files\J River\...
c:\program files\Media Jukebox\...
Then I ensured all the registry items were removed.  It took everything but the rrg information which I assume really needs to stay so I don't have to buy the product again.

I then re-booted.

I installed using custom method to program files\media jukebox\
I tried the plug-in.  It didn't work.
I uninstalled again as I did previously.

I re-booted and then tried to install using the typical method.
I tried the plug-in.  It didn't work.
That's currently where I'm at.

Sounds like I'm the only one out there with this problem?
Please let me know what you need from me to help solve this elusive problem.
I am a VB programmer and deal with this kind of crap all the time.  It's frustrating for both developer and user.

Could the problem be that I have Visual Studio .NET installed?
Also, I originally went to the full version of MJ 8 from a full version of MJ 7 if that matters.

I'm also local (St. Paul) so if you wish to discuss via the phone, I'd be up for that as well.

Thanks for the help...

Temp file space?  In IE, clean your files out by doing Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files/Delete files.  This can take a long time to do.  IE will seem frozen but leave it alone.  I've had this problem.

I think IE is not really getting the file.

Another thing you can try is to right click on the download link and save the mjp file on your desktop.  Then execute it.

The Temporary Internet Files did the trick!

You're amazing.  I never would have guessed that since I had so much actual disk space left.

Thanks Jim!  Anyone who says MJ support isn't very good is insane!
