I keep getting unassigned in the name category and i cant figure out how to change it. Any suggestions?

Please post a few more details, like what types of files, what version of the program you're using, if you're importing, tagging, etc.

If the 'Name' field is empty, it could be because you have files with no tags.  You could use the tools in Media Center to fill in the tags.
