How best to create an SD card
« on: June 19, 2010, 03:51:30 pm »

I'm sure this is possible, but I am not sure how best to go about it.

My car will take a 2GB SD card of music to play. It requires files that are not quite the same as on my server - for example, as the car plays tracks in a folder in alphabetical order, each file name must start with the track number; and I would really like to transcode to lower quality MP3 to fit more tracks onto the card.

How best would MC15 allow me to select a set of albums to include, and to generate the correct folder image that I can copy onto the SD card?

In the past, I have had to (externally to MC) copy the albums I wanted (in their current format) to a new folder, create a new library for that folder, then change the name and the format of each of the files. This sequence works, but seems unnecessarily complicated. If I wanted a data CD, MC15  could do all these steps in a single operation. But I can't find a way to do this without burning a CD.

Is is clear what I am trying to do? Any ideas?

Insert your SD Card on the PC with MC on it.  In MC, the SD Card should now show under the "Drive & Devices".  You right click on this drive and play with various options included conversion to lower spec MP3 etc.  Once you have it setup the way you like it, you can sync tracks to it, or just right click on the music you want and send it to the card.

Thanks

Thank you - I missed that one. Sounds as though it will do just what I want

In Tools > Library > Rename you can use a rule for files names like [Track] – (Name] – [etc]

Thanks Vincent.

I knew that one, but it renames in situ, and does not create a copy with the required naming/format. I don't want to touch my "master" library files - just copy some of them to my car.

I think Nathan's suggestion will be what I need.

I agree, what Nathan said is the way to sync a device
But I don’t see a sync options for a rename including the track nr’s
Maybe your cars sd player can do something with playlist?
