Import date field
« on: June 24, 2002, 03:28:46 am »

I'd like to be able to create a list based on the import date, to make things like "files imported within the last 30 days" or file imported month by month (1-6-02 through 30-6-02). Is there a way to reference that date field to do this? Keyword list doesn't include it, but was wondering if there was another way.

Thanks

Sorry Rudy, but MJ doesn't currently keep track of the import date.  However, if people would like it, we'll add it to the next version.

Thanks.

Not sure you want to "change" the date field to Import Date.  It would be better to creat a seperate field for the import date if it is desided to add the option.  The date field should remained exclusively for the songs release date and shouldn't be confused with the import date.

I think Matt was refering to It Could Be Added To The Data Base Not Replace What Is Already There.

I think adding this to the next version would be a great idea.
Been trying to figure out how to view albums by import date!

As already suggested this should be a seperate field to the file creation date.  Oh it would be useful to be able to use that field too in the media view.  I say this because if you add an imported date to the database, all my currently stored albums are going to end up being set to the same date!  If I could use the existing date - i.e. creation date (I assume) that would help sort out the already existing ones, until the new field becomes populated.

I'm not quite clear on this; is there some reason to NOT use one of the Custom Fields for this?  You can change the name of the field to anything you want and put whatever data in it you want.

Matt - Thanks-I think it would be cool to have. It's one thing I miss from my previous music manager. Now, looking at the fields that exist, there is a date field that I assumed was the import date. Yesterday, I downloaded a new album with Download Manager, and the date field was filled with date and time which corresponded to when they were added to the database. It looked like the import date was there, you just couldn't keyword it. If that date field isn't the import date, what is it?

LC-you could use the custom field, but then I'm assuming you'd have to fill it in automatically, which for my library would be too much work. A field for import date that filled automatically when you imported files is what I was looking for.

Thanks all

bump from a while back....

just checking again. Matt mentioned that MJ doesn't keep track of import date. But I have a Date field in content view that sure looks like an import date. The date and time in that field corresponds to date/time of a bunch of stuff I just imported this morning. Can anyone confirm or deny?

If so, it would be cool, then the Date field just needs to be added as a keyword, right?

just about time for this....

it is prob the last date the file was saved to disk, or the id3v2 tags were edited.

since when you edit a tag mj needs to re-write the whole file again so the date may change per tag save.

Matt - Pretty please - Import date would be LOVELY.

Is it too major a feature to slip into one of the next builds?
I wouldn't imagine it'd be too hard to add and it'd DEFINITELY be hugely welcomed.
