different audio path for playlists?
« on: June 28, 2010, 08:32:01 pm »

Is it possible to specify an audio path for the export of playlists that is different than regular music?  i.e. I normally export to Artist/Album, but when I export a playlist I don't want a hundred different folders, I want one folder with all playlist items in it.  Possible?  (I'm on MC12 but willing to upgrade).

Thanks. Kyle

If you're talking about handheld playlists, you can specify the playlist path and format in Options > Handheld > Files, Paths, & More

no, we're not talking about playlist files that exist on a handheld.  We're talking about music files that are synced to a handheld via a playlist.

Currently, all music files are loaded to a handheld via a single path structure, the default being:

Music\[Artist]\[Album]\

But when you have a playlist and you load the music it points to to a handheld, what you may want is a single folder with all items from that playlist (instead of a large number of [Artist]\[Album]\ folders each with one or two songs in it.  So, what I'd like is:

Non playlist synced Music goes to Music\[Artist]\[Album]\
Playlist synced Music goes to Music\[Name of Playlist]

Is that possible?  Does that make sense?

Thanks,

Kyle

It makes sense, but it's not currently possible.

Would it work to just dump everything to a root folder like 'Music' with no subfolders?

Supporting a [Playing Name] token might be a good addition for a future version.

in other words, assume that our handheld devices *do not* support playlists....  what we want to do is take all the tracks inside an actual playlist in MC and create a folder on the handheld device which is the Playlist Name, and the contents of the folder are the tracks in the MC playlist; all at the same level, not nested into any hierarchy.

Many car audio head units and many of the audiophile handheld devices do not support actual playlists.

(rapid posting just happened, love it)

matt, the problem with a single folder 'music' and all tracks inside of it is that that defeats the entire purpose of what we are trying to achieve, which is a grouping of certain tracks inside a specific folder.
