I found several posts of this topic, but most relevant ones was under MC14 forum, so I'll start another one.
After months and months of wanting to improve my metadata and images of my movies and series, I've taken the plunge and tested out Autometa. It gives you meta data and beautiful Posters and backdrops within seconds. But, and this is a big but, those gorgeous backdrops are about as useless in MC15 as a speed boat in Sahara. The progression in Themes have been on hold for a long time.
First of all, I love the way you get automatic images in Theater View, of artists and you can add your own static images for root items and so on. It can be both good looking and humorous. So, what is missing here? In my opinion there is only one:
- A way to get backdrop media for Series, movies and artists
This would seriously give you those jaw dropping moments. If there is one thing MC15 needs, it is to get on par with those other Media Center solution when it comes to eye candy. And especially in Theater View.
So, how can this be done? I think there is a few solutions.
1. Linking Media with media backdrops.
- With a database field called "Associated Media Link", each movie, series or artist could have this link pointed to a directory, or a file.
- If it's linked to a directory, all media will be used with the exception of folder.jpg. If there is several, the images will be random.
- In the case of artist backdrops, the images will stay the same when the artist name remains. Or else you'll get a lot of background changing when you switch tracks.
- What about putting trailers in the background of the movie meta data? Think of the wow effect, and how effective it would be! I think this would be a Media Center first! Plugins like Metadata already provides us with links to the movie trailers. Why not use this as a second option, if it's found?
- What about some sound tracks getting played when browsing the movies? Not as cool as video, but still...
2. You could treat all pictures in the folder, except for the folder.jpg, as backdrops and show it automatically
3. Put the backdrops in the Themes folder, in a given folder structure. Themes reads the backdrop in the directory based on where you are in Theater View.
So, the question is. Where is Themes heading? Is it possible to do something about this? I think there is a lot of move/series (and music) lovers out there who would really see the value of something like this.
