Rip speed slow....exceedingly slow

Running windows 7 Waspti
Rip speeds (Flac)are often 0.9 to a maximum of 8.9
Any suggestions on improving this?
Perhaps I have configured ripping settings incorrectly?

By default, Media Center uses secure ripping, which is slower but double-checks the rip.

You can switch out of secure ripping mode in Options.
