sound of mp3 and org
« on: June 23, 2002, 02:56:33 am »

Well just really do not know how to call this post

I see that more and more alternative sites-LEGAL ONES;i use alternative with the same meaning than for music-.So many sites give songs on ORG format now
In an other hand others still use mp3
As a result i got from a same band songs in mp3 and songs in org
They DO NOT sound the same, trust me.Org is much better, bright, sharp, dynamic.
It is close to inconvenient to listen to this mix of formats

I was thinking about this:
Can i use 'replay\gain' to solve it?

If yes how?
Doing 'replay\gain' to one format and not the other?
In this case witch one?
Doing 'replay\gain' to both formats and to put different settings to each format?
In this case, any idea about the settings?

To french:i am speaking about punk\oi french bands with records out of print since long
There is few sites with most of the songs.Legal, the bands are ok with it
If of any interest to you,i will put the links here in another post

zevele10,

You can select one, or several, tracks that you want to use replay gain with. Right click and do the properties thing. Then analyze just the files you want.

As far as which ones, well that kind of depends on how it sounds to you doesn't it?

Settings, hmmm, not sure if you can save settings for individual files. Have not tried this myself.

MachineHead
I know how to use 'replay\gain',no problem about it
Let me say it in another way

You have mp3 128kps and mp3 192kps,inside the same artist
When you play you get at random 128 -128-192-128-192-192.The difference of sound and quality annoys you

Would like to know if ,using 'regain\play',you can reduce the difference
If yes how?
to 'regain\play' only the 128 kps and boost them ? To 'regain/play' all and set the 128 at |PLS|10 and the 192 at |PLS|2?

I just do not know if my question make sens
But i am sure that convert an mp3 to ORG is not the solution-or the other way as well

Hi Zevele,

ReplayGain does not really have any effect on quality, but only on the volume level. And it does not really makes sense to assign a value based on the encoding quality because it's completely unrelated to the volume level of the track.

If you don't like to switch between bitrate, you can do that with a smartlist using the bitrate keyword

Claudio

This i know

But the ORG files play louder than the mp3.Because of it i was thinking of using 'replay\gain'
Boosting a little the mp3,and 'lowering[?]' the ORG.
But maybe just 'replay\gain' to all will do.
Just do not know

Have a nice sunday

Yes, if you are not refering to the quality but just to the volume level, than regular replay gain analisys should do it for you. It sounded you had already tried that and was still looking for some other solution
