Phone as a remote
« on: January 01, 2010, 05:10:05 pm »

Hi

I'll be making some scripts to use Media Center with PuppetMaster (http://www.users.on.net/~jtlim/PuppetMaster/). PuppetMaster is a program that turns your mobile phone into a universal remote controller for Windows and I chose it because it seems to be the most stable/fast. These scripts will be useful for people wanting an advanced remote, but not owning a high end phone/tablet. PuppetMaster will work with practically any device you throw at it, provided that the device has bluetooth (or GPRS/WLAN). I'm making these scripts to myself as well, so the focus is on usability.
First up is :

epgphone.js - Use your phone as a TV remote and for listing EPG data on phone screen
Script allows you to change channels quickly, view detailed information about all the programs with an easy to use menu system, control volume, watch previously recorded programs, etc.

Installation
http://www.users.on.net/~jtlim/PuppetMaster/
http://www.student.oulu.fi/~henrikyt/epgphone.js
http://wiki.xmltv.org/index.php/Main_Page

Open and modify epgphone.js to your needs. Take a copy of the context (ctrl +a, ctrl +c) and update it to PuppetMaster (Preferences -> Menus -> Add Item -> Javascript -> (add name and paste the clipboard). Drag this new item to your layout.

Usage
PLEASE NOTE that the first time you start the program it will load a while because the script has to build a few cache files. After the initial load you can exit and start the script with no load times.
Main view: 1..9 to quickly tune to channels, arrow keys to change channel preview, ok to tune, 0 to programs at all channels, * to all programs at current channel
Program list: ok to view details, # to preview details, cancel to back
Settings: onscreen help

TODO?
-IMDB support
-setting recordings from programs menu

Please report bugs/suggestions here!

Coming  up scripts for theater view / music player with cover art / basic controller, stay tuned.

MC15 has remote control via browser for cell phones.  Take a look at the Media Network post here:

and read about WebRemote.
