Media Center 15.0.80 -- Available Here
« on: July 22, 2010, 10:21:24 am »

This is the latest version of MC 15.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.

http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/MediaCenter150080.exe

15.0.80 (7/22/2010)

1. NEW: FreeDB support. When a CD is not found at YADB, we now attempt to look it up at FreeDB.
2. Fixed: Requesting the WSDL from the web service (MCWS) would return an empty document.

15.0.79 (7/21/2010)

1. Fixed: Using the search box just after switching from a grouped library view to a smartlist that showed all database locations could lead to a crash.

15.0.78 (7/20/2010)

1. Fixed: Remote control receiving was not working properly with a portable install.
2. Fixed: DLNA video conversion caching was not working properly.
3. Fixed: An image slideshow could crash.
4. Fixed: Resetting logging could fail in some cases, leaving the full log still present.
5. Fixed: Clearing Playing Now using the web service could lead to a hang.

15.0.77 (7/16/2010)

1. Changed: FFDShow audio and video decoder filters are temporarily excluded from stream selection interface query due to crashing of FFDShow builds 3461 and up.  Note that FFDShow filters are still used as needed.  This change will not break anything for you if you rely on FFDShow.

15.0.76 (7/15/2010)

1. Fixed: When no online images are found in Theater View Playing Now, the default theme images would run as a slideshow instead of showing a fixed picture.
2. Changed: Tuned the fade in and out speeds of some of the Theater View Playing Now components.
3. Changed: The splash screen is hidden when connecting to a library server at startup so it won't collide with authentication requests.

15.0.75 (7/14/2010)

1. Fixed: DirectShow filters selection drop-down boxes did not always show up in File Types configuration.
2. Changed: When adding an auto-import folder, a dialog is shown that allows typing a path (with auto-complete) intsead of going straight to the system browse dialog.

15.0.74 (7/12/2010)

1. Changed: By default JRSS and Bass Management will use 48 dB/octave cross-overs for the LFE / subwoofer.
2. NEW: Bass Management in Output Format DSP allows selection of cross-over slopes per channel (independently configurable slopes for speaker and redirected bass).
3. Faster: Improved performance of Tempo & Pitch DSP plugin.
4. Fixed: A DSP plugin that worked in chunks (instead of continuously) could cause playback stutters. (applies to included Tempo & Pitch plugin)
5. Changed: The confirmation about deleting disk files when removing cover art offers a cancel button.
6. Fixed: Cover View would incorrectly show a maximize / restore button in the popup player at the top of the screen.
7. Changed: WebPlay does no video conversion, so only videos supported natively by the device being used can be played (may change if a compatible streaming encoding format can be found).
8. Changed: Theater View Playing Now cover art only fades out automatically if the online media slideshow option is enabled.

15.0.73 (7/9/2010)

1. NEW: Theater View Playing Now fades out the album cover and increases the prominence of the background theme slideshow 15 seconds into a track (only applies if theme support is enabled).
2. NEW: The display in Theater View's Playing Now can be changed by selecting it and using left and right on the remote.
3. Changed: Theater View Playing Now command 'Big Screen' changed to 'Display View' to match terminology used elsewhere.
4. Changed: Increased the number of images used in a Theater View theme online media slideshow.
5. Changed: Theater View uses a replacement table to provide better a better online slideshow for artists like Kansas and Bush. (please submit improvements made to [MC Install Path]\Data\Default Resources\ArtistSearch.txt back to us)
6. NEW: "Services & Plugins/Amazon" now supports international Amazon stores - use button in upper right to switch among them. Defaults to current Locale country.
7. Changed: CUE files now include the file type (e.g. "WAVE") following the filename on the "FILE" line.
8. Changed: Updated Japanese translation (thanks to KANEY).
9. Changed: When recording television programs using transport stream format, the subchannel info is saved so correct stream will played during playback.
10. Changed: Theater View Playing Now has a 'Play' control on the second roller when stopped.
11. Changed: JRiver URL Reader filter cleans up temporary buffer files when closed, instead of waiting until MC restarts.
12. Changed: Internally the duration field can support floating point values so the database can store a block-perfect length of an audio file. (requires Update Library from Tags to fill durations with higher precision; only supported by APE, FLAC, and WAV)
13. Faster: DLNA Media Servers are much faster at responding to searches.

I'm getting a regular crash when playing music and viewing images at the same time.

Viewing images on a detached display on a second screen.

Are you sure you're using build 80?  We were able to reproduce and fix this from your build 73 report.

Definitely using build 80.  Didn't realise something similar had been reported in 73 (wasn't me).

I assume this is what you're referring to:
Quote from: lepa
Tagging images while other images are slideshowing in playing now crashes MC. (doesn't have to be image that is being tagged). Music is also played at the same time.

Reproduced like this:
Select music and covers --> right click --> play --> music starts to play and album covers slideshow in the locked view.

Then if I start to tag other album cover images I'll always get crash.

I've not been tagging images when getting the crash, just browsing through them.

Sorry, I got two reports switched in my head.  You mentioned the image transition option, which is a known issue.  We need to do some more work on image transitions as the system works differently now that it's hardware accelerated.

Is it only crash when panning & zooming, or only during manual changes, or any other tip?

Thanks.

15.0.77 (7/16/2010)

1. Changed: FFDShow audio and video decoder filters are temporarily excluded from stream selection interface query due to crashing of FFDShow builds 3461 and up.

Good that I catched that before installing .80 as it would have broken my htpc setup that relies on ffdshow completely.

Only during manual changes that I can remember.  It's not a reproduceable on demand crash, but I must have had it six or seven times yesterday.

It looks like there is some misunderstanding here.

FFDShow filters are not bypassed.  They are used if you need them.  They are bypassed only for stream selection interface query.  You will not see any difference, I promise!  :)

Earlier versions of FFDShow did not attempt to expose the interface.  When we asked for it for the interface, it would say "no", and that was that.  Newer versions would answer "yes" and crash when we try to use the interface.  So we bypass that procedure.

WebPlay .ape/.flac playback is broken on iPhone again.

Top level choices like Shuffle and Play on playlists get the broken play button, and even when you drill down to the file level, only mp3 will stream to iPhone.

I just tried with my Windows work PC in Firefox and the m3u file was downloaded but MC is just locked up hanging for the last 5 minutes.

Fixed going from .70 > .80

I can't reproduce this.  APE files are playing on an iTouch here.  Please start a new thread on the Media Network board if the problem persists.

Thanks.

Okay, thanks I will. Just had my buddy try with his iPhone 4 and .flac/.ape won't transcode (thought this was a recent problem too that had been fixed?)

Can anyone else reproduce this crash?

Wv/Cue files won't playback over Library Server on 2 different clients. If I choose Always Convert , the mp3 stream is okay.

Just won't play wav/cue files that import and play okay from a local disk location.

Another Library Server issue. Client doesn't scale thumbnails properly. I have checked and all View Scheme rules are the same; no search modifications added. Not sure what setting I have wrong? as my other client doesn't have this problem.

Thanks for any extra hints.

Have done some extra testing.  Contrary to what I said earlier:
* Audio does NOT need to be playing (makes no apparent difference)
* Will crash regardless of display being detached or using a secondary monitor.
* I mostly seem to get the crash when browsing via double clicking on the playing now list to switch images.  In testing I haven't been able to crash via using Pg Up/Pg Down keys to switch images, although I think I did before (not sure).  A couple of times during testing I did get a crash immediately upon clicking play, but this was done straight after having been browsing previously (and not getting a crash) and then clicking stop.

Thanks.

Hi,
I purchased MC on July 18 and I installed what was delivered to me: MediaCenter150070.exe

When I now activate version 15.0.70's "Check for Updates" it informs me "No updates available at this time".
Shouldn't check of updates alert me that a newer version has been released

need to remember that there are changes to behavior, bug fixes, and feature adds in every change log.

You are also free to download and manually install new versions.  Within the same major rev level, incremental dot level updates are included in your license.

I wish MediaCenter would recall the scroll position I left when I open it.

There is an option to open the last visualization I had open.
But it always opens on top, not in the scroll position I left.

That is a bias for me listening more to the A letter artists. :D

Did you check the thumbnail settings? (Server seems to use no thumbnail space and client has some space between images). Move mouse pointer over the tab name to check this.

If you return to a view with the back command (toolbar, mouse button, Backspace, etc.) scroll will be preserved.  Media Center works like a web browser in this regard.

Yes, I checked that. Not sure what causes this issue but a reboot and restart fixed it.

Has the 'Resync if Date Modified has changed' option for handhelds been broken? (so that it acts as if checked regardless)

I'm just trying to sync one recently ripped album to my ipod, but it wants to resync 642 files that have been modified.  Not had this problem before (last synced probably a couple of months ago)

Edit: Actually checking that option makes it sync over 2000, so it's still doing something, but for some reason does want to resync a lot of tracks anyway  :-\

My learned remote commands have disappeared with this build.  Anyone else?

I don't think anything has changed.  You could restore a library backup and included settings from a few days ago to see if they come back.  The program makes automatic backups.

Maybe try rebooting.

I think MC should open all images in a folder when open a file from Windows Explorer. Actually, only the double clicked item is opened in Display View.

It's a consistency issue... It's the way MC Standard view works, and it is the way major image viewers works.

Any opinion about that?

Edit:  I just notice I did not check "restore settings".  will try that.

I restored backups going back to May... no remote commands.  Also rebooted a few times.  The only changes I've made to this PC (my main HTPC) over the last 6 months is to install MC upgrades so I don't think I inadvertantly deleted anything.  One new function I've been trying over the last several days is "Sync Library" from two other PCs.  Could that somehow have overwritten the remote commands on the server library?  Its not that big of a deal, I only have to set up about a half dozen custom commands, but it is strange.

Here's a new one for me with this build.  When I play .m2ts files, I get an error box saying "A decoder for the new track cannot be found".  It seems superfluous though, because if I click "OK", the file plays just fine as before.  I do have to click through the dialog box though.
