I'm running MC15.0.57 and have been using the DLNA server to serve MP3 files to various media servers for some time.

Just recently I've noticed that under the Media Network services tab there is another server running called a SSDP Responder.

Can anybody tell me what this is doing ?  Do I need it ? if not how so I turn it off ?

SSDP stands for "Simple Service Discovery Protocol".  It's how DLNA devices find each other.

It's normal that it will run any time DLNA is enabled.

Thanks for the note. I hope I can just leave the SSDP responder alone.

However since the last update to MC15 that I installed I can't ply the music on my Roku devices ?

They both find the server, allow me to drown down through the tree to the playlist I want then just sit there saying "Waiting for response"

Any Idea on what is likely to have changed and where can I look ?

Make sure you have build 58 installed.

And maybe try toggling conversion in Options > Media Network.

I see all kinds of packets going to address 239.255.255.250. That is not my internal network. I wonder why it would be sending all that traffic to that address.

This is a Multicast address.  Probably being used if you have UPNP enabled on your system and/or router (plug and play, for router auto-port opening / forwarding, for example).  Network cards, and routers, subscribe and listen to such addresses when they are configured to do so.  Software on your system and/or routers does the configuring.
