Exporting track details
« on: July 27, 2010, 03:13:49 am »

Hi

I have large collection of MP3 & .wav files in MC11, I want to migrate my music library to Squeezebox server.

Is there a way to export music library including track details such as name, rating, genre etc... to Squeezebox server?

You don't need to migrate anything, just import your library into squeezebox server and it will read all the details from your music files.

That's more or less correct for MP3, but not for the Wave format and MC11. Wave tagging (writing tags to the files) was introduced as an option in MC14 and MJ14. In addition, very few other programs can read Wave tags (I am not familar with Squeezebox server).

yap,

Does Squeezebox provide a public list of the supported formats and file tags?

Good point, I missed the bit about .wavs I'm not sure whether SBS does support wav tags but my experience is that they're more trouble than they're worth.
It'll be easier to convert the wavs to flac and have done with it.

thanks for the info, If I convery wav files to flac in MC then will it keep all the tag info in the flac? If, yes then I guess can move flac files to squeezbox server and all should work.

Yes as long as the library option to 'Store in file tags (when possible)' is checked for any tags you want Squeezeboxserver to read.
