Installed MC 15.017; now MC 14 and 15 won't play files
« on: April 05, 2010, 01:22:44 pm »

I'm using WASAPI with Win 7 on a well-spec'ed machine. When I try to play M4A files on either version of MC, I get this message:

Media Center encountered errors... Please make sure that the path in your media library points to the right location.
Error details:
DirectShow: Pins cannot connect due to not supporting the same transport. Code=0x80040266

I've re-imported the library twice and restarted the machine with no results.

I have a new DAC for my system, and I'd really like to use it... Please let me know if you have potential solutions.

Thanks.

You'll need to install a DirectShow filter called DCBass.  Here's more:

Thanks for the quick response. Just to be clear: I need this even if I have Quicktime installed?

QT can work if you tell MC how to play the filetype (options/file types), but a DirectShow filter is a much better way.

Hi, I am getting a similar error.   I am trying MC on both a Vista and a Win 7 machine, and tried both MC 14 and MC 15, error tends to come up after playing 24/96 files for quite a while, a number of hours.  I am using an Ayre USB DAC.  The error message I am getting starts the same way:  Media Center encountered errors while trying to play the last several files. Please make sure that the path in your media library points to the right location.

Then I get error details:

Playback could not be started on the output Windows Audio Session API using the format '44100 Hz, 24 bits per sample, 2 channels.'
This output format may not be supported by your hardware.  You can use DSP Studio to change the output to a compatible format.
Also, make sure that your system has a valid sound playback device and that is it properly configured in playback options.

I would deeply appreciate any help in resolving this.

Thanks, Jeff

There is an Ayre problem that we're talking with them about.  May be the same.  Have you talked with them?

Hi Jim, yes, I spoke with Ayre and they are pretty convinced it's a media center problem.  I just tried playing around with the WASAPI settings as follows:  in output mode, I have left open device for exclusive mode checked, and I also checked flush device buffers on startup and pause.  This cleared the "Media center encountered errors while trying to play the last several files" error message.  Let's see if this fixes the problem.

On another front, I have been having a terrible time playing 24/96 files from HDTracks.com. The sound stutters and periodically tracks won't load.  I migrated to MC 15 and still had the same problem with my Asus 1201n super duper netbook.  Then I switched to a more powerful Vista machine and didn't have any problems playing 24/96 files.  Could it be that the Asus netbook isn't powerful enough?

Many thanks, Jeff

Jeff,

Just saw this post as i am new to J river and the forum. I'm having similiar problems with my new Ayre DAC on MC 15.  I finally got it to work by going Kernelstreaming and it is handling both 44 and 96 high rez files now.

I'm on  a very high end Windows 7 machine as I was told 4 gigs of ram is a minimum, 8 gigs is better so I went with 12 gigs as it didn't add much to the price.

Any tips or other learnings you can share?

thanks
