Sure, WIFI is just a networking technology so once you have your laptop setup on the network over Wifi you should be good to go, but keep in mind some of the real world limits of Wifi compared to Ethernet on Cat 5/5e/6:
- Speed: Wifi is sloooww compared to Cat5 so you may be limited on the bit rate that will reliability play without stuttering. For most DVD stuff it is fine (as is normally around 5-9Mbits/sec) but most connections struggle to deliver Blu Ray streams (up to 50Mbits/sec)
- Reliability: Wifi throughput can drop in and out...it's just not as reliable as Cat5 for delivering a stable connection
- Wifi's Speed and Reliability is impacted by range and environmental factors such as walls, interference etc.
In summary you will see posts claiming success and failure of using Wifi for media playback...the only way is to see if it works in your setup.
Thanks
Nathan
PS - I love blue string. IMHO Wifi is good for casual stuff but is too unreliable to be used for a regular media network connection.
