Author Topic: Help!: Zones not working with DLNA WDTVLIVE and sound card in MC 15.0.92  (Read 2206 times)

I have a ASUS Xonar DX as my primary sound card and a WDTVLIVE DLNA device attached in a second location.
I can listen to audio or view movies to either device. However when I link the zones I get an odd behaviour where the sound starts in the slave zone (the DLNA zone) and then stops and switches to playing in the sound card zone. When the zones are linked I get sound only in one zone at a time and it switches between the two whenever a new song is played. For example:

Song 1 starts: DNLA zone plays.... midway through the song, the PC "master zone" starts and the DNLA zone stops.
Song 2 starts: DNLA zone plays.... midway through the song, the PC "master zone" starts and the DNLA zone stops.

I have a log file of of this but it is too large to post.

Thanks, Chris

This should be working in that build.  But try updating to build 95 at the top of the MC15 board.

Try linking (drag one zone onto the other), and then starting playback from the link.

Thanks for the quick reply. I installed .95 and I now sometimes get the following message when I drag to create the link:
"there was a problem controlling the selected DLNA device. Double-check your device, server, and network settings".

One time I got it MC froze and I had to restart. the next time I was able to link the zones but the alternating behaviour with one zone playing and then the next is still there. I ran a log and looked for anything that might be interesting. I can send the full file to an email if you want, but here it is with what might be the interesting bits clipped out.

It's possible I might not have WDTVLIVE's DLNA connection configured correctly in MC, but I don't really see anything to configure besides the items in networks and for those settings I have played with the DLNAExtra setting turning it off and on and that's about it.

Thanks,

Chris

  • Where did I put my teeth?

I think you only need to select Generic DLNA in the DLNA list and make no other changes.

Try updating WD firmware.

If you have a problem, try powering the DLNA device off and on.

I wouldn't try synching zones unless the WD playback is solid.

Hmmm. I tried each step you suggested. The WDTVLIVE is working fine... by itself. once I try and link, I get the weird behavior.

Thanks,

Chris

We see the problem.  We'll investigate.

  • Shoes gone again!

Zone linking of DLNA devices is not currently supported.

We'd like to add this ability to the new zone linking feature, but it's a little tricky since DLNA renderers aren't as precise or as well behaved as local (or even remote Media Center) zones.

Drats. Make sense, it would be very cool if you can get it working. I'll keep my fingers crossed and then in the meantime consider (shudder) pulling some wire to those speakers.

Thanks,

Chris
