To set up a new TV I got, I broke down and picked up a low profile desktop system to run it.  Overall, it runs theater view satisfactorily with the extras turned down.  The problem is dvd playback.  When I start a DVD, using default settings, the video starts with greats gaps between frames that only worsens until I finally jump ahead a few minutes.  I have tried J River video engine along with a variety of other settings.

Is it just me or is the Vista/Windows 7 DVD decoder subpar?  I always have problems with it.  The Cyberlink decoder I used years ago was flawless and unbelievably efficient showing me 100x fast forwarding at roughly 30 fps!  The newer decoders barely even update the screen when seeking.

As a test, try picking the name of your sound card in Options > Video > Audio.

I selected speakers and got the DVD can't play message.  Then I selected default Windows device and to my amazement, it looks to be fixed!  That's a big WOAH.  Thanks Matt!  I'll report back if I see more issues.
