AVATAR ts
« on: September 25, 2010, 07:28:27 pm »

I have put avatar on my theater with dts sound but I am getting no sound at all.

I have cccp and coreavc filters set on spdif

Can anyone help with this sound problem??

I know that it must be the filters and I have always has a dts problem with cccp filters on spdif passthrough. I wish there was easier filters for passthrough.

Cheers

Hi Maid,

It is kind of hard without more info (please post the "right click --> DirectShow Filter --> Copy Graph Info to Clipboard" when playing the file and post the results here).  You may also like to use http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en as it will tell you what is in each file.

So I'm now guessing that the files is (or was created from) the Avatar M2TS file from a Blu-ray Disk and it has a High Def DTS-MA track and that you are using the Haali splitter ... if so.... unfortunately this is a combination that does not work (Haali just ignores this track = no sound).  You can either use the DD track that is (may be) also present (on the original M2TS file) OR if you don't have any other track change the Splitter from Haali to MPC (see pic) and it should then work.

Note: by using SPDIF you will never get the full HD Sound, just the lossy "core" from the DTS-MA track

EDIT - I'm not sure if CCCP has the MPC Filter so I have attached it from the one I use (sorry don't know a D'Load Link) but you will need to use the following command from an Elevated Command Prompt to register the filter before MC will see it:
Code: [Select]
REGSVR32.EXE "MpegSplitter.ax"

I have tried switching the filters around, still no sound.

If I dont use spdif how else would I set it up.

We though spdif was the best.

OK - Haali is not presenting any Audio Stream at all but I'm still guessing that it is a DTS-MA (You may also like to use http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en as it will tell you what is in each file) and if so you will need to use another splitter (eg the MPC one I posted above).

Thanks
Nathan

FYI: S/PDIF is an older standard designed to support up to 2.0ch PCM and 5.1ch DTS/DD (as this was the most common format for Music and Video respectively a decade ago).  It does can not pass other formats such as a decoded 5.1 PCM streams or bitstream DTS-HD/TrueHD which will require an HDMI connection.  The only other way is to decode everthing to PCM and use the Analogue outs but this is another topic (and a favorite of Matt!)

Don't let me confuse the issue on HDMI for now (you can look at it later).  You should be able to get the lossy core of the DTS-HD extracted (by the Splitter / Souce Filter) then sent over SPDIF to your Kenwood.  I'm still guessing (till we know what the Audio Stream really is) but if my guess is correct you will need to change the Haali Splitter for the MPC one (it's a bug in Haali).

ok the audio is DTS according to medi info.

I have set JRiver video engine, MPC FLV gabest, other filters ? Enhanced video Renderer.

I would like more info about my set up as the stereo has 5.1 inputs or spdif connection no hdmi.

Do I need a new stereo???

There are two separate Issues:

1) Getting sound from your Avatar File:  You should be able to do this - Have a look at the PIC below and confirm that you have a DTS-MA Track (example cirled in red).  If so you will need to change the "Source Filter" from Haali to MPC (see second Pic) and leave the "Other Filters" to what you had previously for now (FFDSHOW for Audio and CoreAVC for Video I "think" they were).  If you do not see "MPC - Mpeg Source (Gabest)" in the Drop Down box for Source Filter you will need to REGISTER the file as per my post above with the file I attached (It is the MPC - Mpeg Source (Gabest) file).  Couple of notes that may help the understanding of what different types of filters do:
* Source or Splitter Filters:  They read the source file and split out from that the Video, Audio, Subtitle, Chapters are various streams and hand them to the next filter in the list:
* Decoders:  Things like FFDSHOW and CoreAVC are decoders that can accept certain streams (Audio, Video etc) from the Source Filter and they decode them then hand it to the next filter in the list:
* Renderers:  They take the decoded Audio or Video stream and interface with the hardware that is going to make it Audible or Visible

Your issue (I think) is that the Haali Source splitter does not know what the DTS-MA Audio track is in the TS file so is ignoring it.  FFDSHOW is not even getting a change to try to decode it.

2) Getting High Def Sound:  This is really for another thread, but you have two basic options:
a) Everthing has a Modern HDMI connection, then you can use the to either bitstream the HD Codecs (like DTS-HD MA, or TrueHD) and pass the decoded LPCM (eg 5.1 pcm).  Depending on what you want to do then certain equipment needs to be used, particularly the Graphics Card (eg I use an ATI HD5450, as it is cheap, quite, and will both bitstream HD codecs and pass PCM).  You will then need a receiver/amp that can accept the format (most new ones will)
b) Decode it all on the PC and sent it out via your analogue ports to the multi channel in on the Reciver (if you have it).  I'd not do this but Matt is very keen on this approach.

If you want to discuss how to get High Def Sound, I'd start another thread.

Thanks
Nathan

Hi again,

sorry to be such a newb.

I tried the filters you suggested but could not find MPC one you suggested only the MPC FLV gabest one.

I have downloaded the one you kindly sent but do not know how to instal it.

You need to register the file with the following command from a Elevated Command Prompt before MC will see it.  Copy the MpegSplitter.ax to some folder where you will keep it, eg "C:\FILTERS", then follow these steps to register it (have a look at the first pic)
1) Click on the ORB
2) type "cmd" in the box,
3) after a short while you will see under programs "cmd.exe" appear
4) right click on it and from the menu select "Run as administrator"

Press "OK" if asked by the UAC popup.

You will now see a black box like in the second pic.
1) Type in "REGSVR32.EXE c:\filters\MpegSplitter.ax" without the quotes and press enter
2) You should see a Msg saying it succeeded

You can now close this windows and MC will now see and be able to use this filter.

Thanks

Can I ask how you got this Avatar file? If you have the disk and ripped it yourself, you may want to consider making an mkv of it. Or get one of the many excellent 720p / 1080p torrent downloads available, if that's legal in your country.
