How do you identify which USB hub is USB2?
« on: October 28, 2010, 03:49:26 pm »

I have a laptop - Acer Aspire 1 - with three USB ports. Opening Device Manager I see under my USB controllers list 4 Intel SCH Family USB Universal Host Controllers (8114-8116) - 1 of which is USB2 Enhanced (8117). Of the three ports on my laptop, 2 on the left and one on the right, how do I identify the USB2 hub?

Thx
Dave

They are all usb2. The enhanced controller emulates multiple usb1 controllers, that is why it shows up the way you see it in device manager.

Now, you can still run into trouble sometimes if the controller gets confused on whether or not the device it's connecting to is usb1 or usb2. The usb port can get stuck in one state or the other or even appear dead until rebooted. I've seen all these behaviors on various PC's. It's not common but it does happen.
