one audio channel missing
« on: October 28, 2010, 08:18:03 am »

This is the weirdest problem, hope someone can shine a light on this.
Setup is windows xp with 3 audio cards using 3 zones.
2 zones work fine, 3 zone looses the left channel.

Basically what happening is this both channels works fine. Next I hear a sharp click and the left channel is gone. I can see in the MC top window that the spectrum analyzer for the left channel is gone. To get it back I have to stop and start play again. Then it will play again for about 10 minutes.

Sounds like a hardware problem bit i would think if that is the case the spectrum analyzer would still show.

Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks

I've never seen anything like this.

But you're correct that if the spectrum analyzer flat lines, it means we're delivering silence to the hardware.

I would start by disabling all DSP in DSP Studio and testing again.

Thanks.

Ok will do.

BTW just noticed something else. If I'm doing a remote desktop with leaving the sound at the remote computer it doesn't happen.

Ok took me a while to get to the bottom of this but I got it figured out.
First an explanation of what I'm running. MC version 15.0.142 in combination with Homeseer running MC plugin. I have 3 zones defined. Zone 1 using the on board realtek HD sound card. Zones 2 & 3 are using soundblaster cards.

Zones 2 & 3 are running flawless. Zone 1 has an issue as mentioned before. Quick recap, I'm listening to music and hear a sharp pop. 1 channel is missing. Spectrum analyzer of the left channel is gone. After trying all DSP options I use in different combinations  I noticed that if I disable the equalizer I hear a sharp pop again and the channel is back. If I leave the equalizer disabled the channel stays and everything plays fine. So for now I do not use the equalizer for zone 1.

You might try a different sound device.  Or update the driver.

What is the source file that you're playing?  bitrate, source bit depth, file type, etc.

I'm running a mix of mp3's and wma files. Bitrate changes as well from song to song (192, 256, 128). Don't know where to find source depth.
Will try a different sound device after work today.
