What is patent free formats

What is patent free formats and wich is the advantage to other formats?? if i use wma someone could reclame the musics? i really don't understand a bit!

I think that refers to the codec used.  AFAIK, you are free to use the WMA codec as you see fit.  MP3, however is owned by the Fraunhofer Instatute, and you actually need to pay a licensing fee to use it.  If you use a commercial app, such as RealOne Player, then Real has paid the fees for you.
