Running Media Server on a Windows VM
« on: March 25, 2015, 08:48:12 am »

I'm using JRiver Media Server to feed Auralic Aries/Vega combo.I moved my server to a Windows 8.1 Hyper-V VM and now all music is playing at 44/16, regardless of source. The format and sample rate options in JRiver match my old setup. In the VM, I've configured the control panel settings for JRiver to allow 192/24. The base machine for the VM has no sound card, but I've also configured its sound control panel to allow native sample rates.

Thinking that maybe the VM wasn't as spry as my original setup and was downshifting, I've given it 2 processors and 4GB RAM, and configured JRiver to load tracks into memory, and adjusted buffering to a medium setting.

Anyone tried this with success? My library has lots of of hi-rez files, up to 192/24 PCM and DSD64.
