Memory playback filesize limit?
« on: December 01, 2010, 11:13:49 pm »

I have few GBs of memory left in my system and tried to play 24/192 files using memory playback. Most of these file format has over 300MB like 500 or even gigabyte for long ones. I found J River only fetch maximum memory stream to 256MB or so and keep fetching until the end with 256MB limit. Is there a way to change maximum memory buffer to something like 1-2GB? Constantly filling memory cause some problems with my system. Allocating data into memory cause system unstable and constant spike until final 256MB.

it would be a good idea to allow users to change it via the CP, some people mite only want to cache 100MB whilst others mite want it set to 4GB

Those running Win64 might even use > 4GB...

I think a true audiophile player should offer:
- configurable amount of memory ( entire CD in WAV plus cue sheet is common)
- configurable playback option (wait until audio fully loaded in memory)
- conversion to PCM on load
