Using WDTV with MC (as Media Center) over DLNA
« on: December 08, 2010, 09:26:16 am »

Morning!

So I finally have my WDTV live wired to the network and all is well. I am playing with the WDTV and using DLNA to connect to various PCs around the house that run MC 15. I see that the WDTV "sees" these as "Media Centers" when I select Music->Media Centers from the WDTV interface. I am very impressed with the display and being able to select music from different sources.

I was wondering - what exactly needs to be running on any given PC for this to work? Obviously the PC has to be up and on the network - but does MC have to be up in full GUI mode and running to allow the WDTV Live to play from the library or is there just a service that can be running on the PC to allow access?

Appreciate any tips!

You just need to set DLNA on in Media Network settings.  Then set Media Server to start on Windows boot.  After that, it should just work.

You can also play to the WD as a DLNA Renderer from MC.  It will show up under Playing Now in MC.

Thanks for posting your results.

Then set Media Server to start on Windows boot.

This is the key - how do I set this?

Yes - And?

I typed Media Server in the search field and I see a checkbox under General->Media Network. If it's checked - does that somehow imply that it will start at Windows boot?

You should see it under "Startup" also.
