How to Get the sound of the Playing Now on a remote device
« on: August 03, 2010, 02:38:17 pm »

Is there any solution to get the sound of what is currently played on the PC (Playing Now) on a remote device (Via WebPlay or DLNA) ?
I found how to play a separate list, how to remote control the PC, but not How get the sound remotely.
How to push/broadcast the playing now to other device
Thanks
Regards

The latest build has a feature we call ZoneLink.  It lets you connect two different zones from your PC.  Zone1 is the PC itself.  To do what you want, you would need a DLNA Renderer on the remote device.  A Windows PC running MC would work as a remote device.

This doesn't seem to work all that well, lots of starts/stops and gaps. I'm not up-to-date on the technical details of DLNA, but would it be possible to simply continuously stream the uncompressed PCM stream of what's in playing now (that is do not interrupt the stream when changing songs).

Your network connection may not be fast enough to support what you're trying.  DLNA has no streaming problems.

If you're using wireless, try a wired connection just as a test.

How 'bout if "Playing Now" could show as a playlist?  There would be sync problems ... but it's start for allowing an iPhone (... & its dock) to play elsewhere in the home(?)
