MJ CD Support
« on: June 13, 2002, 10:00:14 am »

I got no response in two tries, I'll try again.

MJ gets "Failed to open drive - Parameter out of range" error when trying to play (digital) or rip from my SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-612 drive. But it will play DVDs and music CDs in analog mode just fine.

There is no problem using my SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-408B drive, but I only plan to deploy the DVD drive.

Other programs (eg: Windows Media Player, Real Jukebox II Plus, Intervideo WinDVD, NTI CD-Maker 2000, etc. have no problem with either device.

I've changed the device parameters and checked the ASPI as suggested in FAQs.

I'm using Windows98 SE.

This has been a problem on all releases of MJ that I’ve tried – MJ7 and all the MJ8 betas including the current one.

I'm sorry, but not all drives will support digital playback.

According to http://www.feurio.com/English/cd_roms/list_ide_feuriotest.shtml this should be able to rip at 15.5X. The drive is seems to be IDE (ATAPI) though. Have you tried using 'IDE' instead of ASPI?

Just my £0.02p

Not that this will help much (unless you are considering upgrading ) , but I have the Samsung CDRW/DVD SM-3088 and eveything is cool with digital playback

Try emailing me at johnt @ jriver.com (remove the spaces) and I'll send you a test version of the ripper control to see if it works better.

Thanks,

JimH,  sorry to learn ripping is not supported on recent, popular drives like this one... makes the software usless for my application. Is there a list of drives to be supported in a future release?

Lain soundsabound,  Thanks for your input but it only confirms that MJ works fine on the SW-408B drive, the SD-612 drive is not listed on that web site.
