Install JRiver MC on NAS
« on: April 09, 2012, 02:40:33 am »

I apaologize for these probably "too easy questions":
- Where can I find instructions to install MC on a NAS?
- Is this possible on a LaCie 2big? Anyone some experience with that?
- Is it a problem that already "some Twonky" is running on this LaCie?

1.  Don't install it on a NAS if you can avoid it, but if you expect to carry the drive with you to other locations, use the "Portable" install.  Instructions are in the wiki.

2.  The brand of drive should not matter.

3.  No.

I second Jim suggestion of not installing MC in a NAS.
When I started using MC, I had Vortex Box, a NAS with lots of software installed. I decided to install MC in it and it was a complete mess. I had to delete all my files (happily not many by that time) and I learned two lessons:
First, MC is outstanding by itself, and doesn't need a "chaperon".
Second, I sent back Vortex Box and got a full refund. It was a CD ripper, a NAS, a media player, all optimized for Logitech gear.
I am purchasing myself a NAS and will not install any of the supplied software; just the storage capability and I will access it from my computers through my domestic network, these ones with MC installed.
