error when trying to log into Performer Store
« on: January 04, 2011, 09:52:27 am »

I just signed up for the Performer Store. Looks like a nice interface and I would like to try it.

When I try to log in, I get the following error message:

there was an error accessing a critical component (wmhelper.dll). Protected content may not be accessible.

Any ideas?

Thanks

The error you're seeing is caused by a missing or unregistered component of the Performer store called WMHelper.dll.

Can you check in this folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 15\Stores\Performer Media Center

to see if WMHelper.dll exists there?

If it's there, try running the "regsvr32" command on it. For example:

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 15\Stores\Performer Media Center\wmhelper.dll"

Thanks for the reply.

I tried running regsvr32 as follows:

regsvr32.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 15\Stores\Performer Media Center\wmhelper.dll

I get the following error message:

The module "c:\Program" failed to load.
Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .dll files.
The specified module could not be found.

The file is in the correct directory.

Here are the details on the file:

WMHelp.dll
Size on Disk: 376 KB (385,024 bytes)
Created: ‎Friday, ‎December ‎17, ‎2010, ‏‎7:31:07 PM (the day I loaded MC15)
Modified: ‎Friday, ‎March ‎05, ‎2010, ‏‎11:33:36 AM
Accessed: Friday, ‎December ‎17, ‎2010, ‏‎7:31:07 PM

Any other ideas?

Mcafee virus protection.

Thanks again for any help you can provide.

I get the following error message:

The module "c:\Program" failed to load.
Put quotes as JohnT wrote above.

I tried it with the quotes.

I get the following error message:

The module "c:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 15\Stores\Performer Media Center\wmhelper.dll" failed to load.
Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .dll files.
The specified module could not be found.

It is essentially the same message with a new path.

It appears this file was loaded during the original installation. Should I reload???

Double-check that the file is at that path.  If you are on 32-bit Windows for example, it might just be "Program Files" instead of "Program Files (x86)".

If it still fails, give WMHelper.dll to the tool found here:
http://www.dependencywalker.com/

A re-install and reboot would also be a good idea.  You might also try disabling virus/security software during the install, because perhaps it is interfering with control registration.

Sorry to not have a better answer, but this isn't a common problem.

I have the same issue now with MC 19
I tried the proposed regsvr32.exe solution changing 15 to 19
(regsvr32.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 19\Stores\Performer Media Center\wmhelper.dll)
and have this error message: module ... loaded ... DllRegister Server ... failed ... error code 0x80070005

System: Win7, 64 Bit

Can anyone help?
(It' a new installation)
