I have tried to add mobi and amz books to my library but they do not show up. Also what about adding them to MC just like PDFs files that way the Kindle software will start up just like a PDFs software.

I've had no trouble importing ebooks in a wide variety of formats including mobi. MC treats them as data (document) files. Make sure you have Data Support enabled in Options\General\Features.

If you have mobi associated with an external app then double clicking it will open it in that app.

MC cannot display ebooks, nor can it read or write ebook metadata (author, title, cover art, etc.). This is a shame since one of MC's key differentiating strengths is its ability to manage all media types. ebooks are becoming an important media type and they are hard to manage without using the metadata.

Until recently I managed all of my 10,000+ books with MC but recently threw in the towel and started using Calibre for non-pdf ebooks. I'd switch back if MC had even rudimentary support for ebooks since it is a huge advantage having all media in one library.

Dealing with books

I use JRiver to manage all of my eBooks and comics. It works great.
They all auto import.
I can choose whatever program i want JRiver to use for opening them.




---Get them to auto import do this:
In the JRiver installation directory find the folder called default resources.
In this folder find the file called FileAssociations.
Make a new folder beside the default recource folder called "Custom Resources"
Copy the FileAssociations file into that folder.
Open the fileassociation file with notepad and edit it to contain the extensions you want.

My edit is something like below, but you would have to add your mobi info:

<Data>Comics (cbr,cbz);Books (lrf);Office Documents (odt,doc,rtf);PDFs (pdf);Text Files (txt,log)</Data>

With this done they can now be auto imported.
Also you can change the playback method.

I use 'fill properties from filename' to add tags.
Each book is in its own folder and each folder has a folder.jpg
I add the cover art by temperarily changing the medeatype to video then
use "quick find in cover art directory" to update the thumbnails
