problem maintaining library settings
« on: January 08, 2011, 05:27:10 pm »

I am having a problem with MC maintaining my library settings, and would appreciate some help as it has become a nuisance.

I have several libraries I use in MC in my laptop, including:
1) Local - files located on the laptop's internal drive,
2) Extension Drive - files located on a portable hard drive, which I take when traveling.

The settings for each library are different in that they Import from different locations;
the Local library from C:\Music, C:\Pics, C:\Video,
and the Extension Drive library from E:\Music, E:\Pics, E:\Video.

My problem is that MC does not keep the Import Folder settings for each library. If I import into the Local library after having used the Extension Drive library, MC will retain the settings from that library and import from E:\Music, E:\Pics, E:\Video into my Local library, which I do not want.

I have to manually go into the library options and reset the Import folders to C:\Music, C:\Pics, C:\Video.

How do I maintain the correct settings?

can't really understand why 2 separate libraries cannot each have different import folders, and keep the settings

I don't have this problem. When I load a library the stored auto-import paths are loaded correctly.

The library specific settings are stored in the Windows Registry or in a settings file if you use the portable install option. Each library has its own unique code number. Perhaps the codes in your libraries are not unique for some reason and the library specific settings are not stored separately.

You could create a new library with the clone feature. If the new library can correctly maintain the import folders you can delete the older copy of that library.

Edit: Changed "restoring a backup file" to "cloning". I have not tested this recently, but I think a restore may preserve the old identifier code. Perhaps that is also the cause of the problem.
