Replay Gain
« on: January 09, 2011, 05:50:37 pm »

Hi,

I have a lot of albums ripped in FLAC format, but a while ago I was having problems with something or other (not important) on an old computer and someone suggested using Foobar (I think it was) to calculate Replay Gain values for each track to 'level out' the volume on each album. But now I am worried this has ruined the losslessness of my collection sad  It has to be said I have no reason for thinking this, i.e. I've not heard any problems with the rips, but nevertheless it still bothers me.

I notice that the Replay Gain and Album Gain values are stored as tags for each file. If I simply delete the tags, will this restore the rips back to the way they were?

Thanks in advance,
Jon.

Audio analysis (Replay Gain, for example) just stores values in MC's Library or in the tag or both.  It doesn't affect the rest of the file.  Your lossless files are still lossless unless you convert them to another format.
