I noticed the option "Convert unsupported formats and high bitrates" in the handheld conversion options for audio, and I was wondering what constituted "high bitrates"? I've seen the question posted a few times on this message board over the years (one even from myself back in 2007), but I've never seen the question properly addressed.
My situation, copied from my older thread: I have Media Center set to convert to Ogg Vorbis for handheld with this audio conversion mode, and I noticed that all of my Musepack files get converted to Ogg (as I expected), but none of my MP3 files are. The MP3 file's bitrates range from 192kbps to 320kbps (CBR), with some ~250kbps VBR files in there as well. I wouldn't expect the 192kbps files to be converted (I set Ogg encoder to 'Custom' with -q 6, which produces files around this bitrate), but I would have expected my 250kbps VBRs and 320kbps CBRs to be re-encoded.
I saw in another thread that someone had suggested the ability to specify for each bitrate what would be considered high [eg - "ogg(190),mp3(210)"]. Several people seconded the idea, but no mention was ever made of this feature. The original thread is located here:
