Best Codec For DVD?
« on: February 09, 2011, 09:49:58 am »

Hi, I have recently brought about ten live concert DVDs and i would like to know what codec to rip them in.. file size doesn't matter i just want to to still have the sound and video to look like its direct via the DVD disk.

The reason for this is i hate having crappy file names in my Library...

thanks

You could rip to mkv without changing codec, just change the container using makemkv or other recommended software. You also have the option of transcoding to h264 in an mkv container and significantly reducing the file size without losing visible video or audible audio quality. You could get down to a 2 GB file size easily withou compromising quality... if you get the video settings right. I cannot help with the latter though, but details should be available in other forums.
