persistent burn error
« on: April 05, 2003, 08:49:35 pm »

I'm trying a burn, from MJB 8.0.392, and the first 8 files are long ones - 40mb+.  I get an error at the same point in one file: "Unexpected failure reading file cache.  File/Disc read error encountered."  The file in question plays fine, and doesn't seem to have any errors.  I'm stumped.  Any thoughts as to what could be wrong would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
Environment:   8.0.392, WinXPpro, EasyCDCreator (not being used here), Adaptec Aspi 471a2

If they're mp3's, you can DL the Win32 binary of MP3check here....though 40MB mp3's are unusual (so are they wav's?).

They're not wav's -- they're entire album rips.  I'll try that tool.  Thanks for the tip.

Turns out it's not one particular file.  I split that one up, rearranged the playlist, and now it crashes during a different file -- same error message.  Something wrong with the burning process, I guess.

Mike,

Try the 396 build. May fix problem.

PS: Do you have XP's built-in burning software turned off? It may be interfering.

I didn't even realize XP included such a thing.  How does one turn it off?

the built in burner is provided Ala Adaptec who also makes "Easy CD Creator"

Microsoft made a deal with Adaptec Prior to the release of Windows XP

To turn off XP burning:

Right click on the My Computer icon and select properties.
Find your RW drive and right click on icon. Select Drive properties.
Go to the Recording tab and uncheck "Enable CD recording on this drive"
Reboot
