Ability to push music?

I have my primary audio area in my living room but in my bedroom I have a Bose system with an iPod dock connected to it.  I would much rather have a small computer (Asus EEE or something) that was wireless to which I could push music...so not control MC but merely accept commands.  The primary goal would be to synchronize the music to both zones.  Is this currently possible?  I am using all the new library server goodness, learning of the features that are there.

Please take a look at the Media Network board and our wiki article on DLNA.

MC can play to a DLNA Renderer (a player in other words).  The JRiver Id (rhymes with hid) is one.

If you want to use a PC, MC can also act as a DLNA Renderer.

Thank you Jim, all great suggestions!  I'll investigate the options and select one.  I think the standalone box would be ideal for simplicity and I really only need audio at this point.

The shipping address has to match the shipping address?  That may pose a problem for me.  I generally don't receive packages to my apartment and ship them to work...am I out of luck?  My apartment door is public facing.  Does it default to including outside US shipping until you enter your US address?

It plays WAV and MC can convert to that...perfect, "lossless" in a sense.  Wasn't there a discussion a while back about how this was not possible?  Or does MC convert the entire file before beginning playback?  FLAC quality 8 must decode very quickly though!

Don't worry about the address.  We'll make sure it works.

Conversion can cause a slight delay.

Just wondering... Are you guys at all considering doing a video-capable (via HDMI or something) version of the ID?  I'd love a small device that could be guaranteed to work well with MC that I could use to upgrade some of my TVs at work to DLNA capable video network devices.

I'm finally in a situation where I only want music.  I have an audio/video setup in my living room but just a small Bose system in my bedroom that I want music to.  Of course then I'll want another system in the bathroom.

The order went through fine.  I like it how a lot of places don't take all CCs but they accept PayPal, which does, so that fills the gap in those cases.  I hope this does exactly what I want it to, haha.  Does the device show up as a new zone?  Now I'm tempted to leave both audio systems powered on so I can, at any point, grab my iphone and start playback.  Is there a solution that controls infrared devices over the network too?  It would be cool to turn on/off the stereos only as they are needed...of course something so simple would require a lot of complexity.

Thanks for the order.

There are IR to RF based repeaters available.  We had a Philips pair here that worked well.

Some receivers will also turn themselves off after a period of inactivity.

How do I set up my wireless security?  I have an AirPort Extreme.  What cable do I need to connect the USB port and set it up?
