How to quickly search all audio now?
« on: March 07, 2011, 05:18:34 am »

I really miss being able to be able to search my entire audio library from anywhere in MC by simply entering Control + F.

Now MC will search only current view. But we already have Control + E for doing that. F3 also does a similar search within the current view.

There are inconsistencies too, where Control +F works as it used too. It does so in playing now and also if you drill down the library using tree browsing (as opposed to drilling down from pane selection)

Please can we have old control + F functionality back ;)

I'm still able to search my entire library with Ctrl+F. MC16. No change in functionality there.

Maybe i wasn't clear enough. Yes it is still possible in certain views, but before control F would always search the entire audio or video or pics library.

The change was introduced sometime in MC15.

I've been "nagging" this for a while. Matt did answer that it is by design so this is my final "nag" before backing off :)

following picture tries to explain the current behavior inconsistencies.

Yup, I've seen a few posts highlighting the issue in MC15 too.

If it's by design then I have to ask why, as Control E does the same thing ie. search current view.

I suppose they could change Control + E so it does what Control + F used to do ? But that wouldn't solve the current inconsistency with Control + F.

The root of audio isn't a selectable view by default, so switching to it to search doesn't make for most users.

But then (if you look the picture) the below (1940's) search should be executed in "Artists & Albums" or in the same node currently selected (1940's in the picture) and not in "Audio" as it does now.

The current behavior doesn't make sense to me now as if I go deeper in the tree ctrl+f search range changes to include wider range (whole "Audio")...

(I would prefer ctrl+f to always go to root object but I guess that is not gonna happen)

It is for me. I don't recall over-riding the default. Any idea why that is?

Perhaps related to this, When i click the (locate) arrow next to Artist, MC jumps to the root node of audio, no matter what view I'm in. I understand it stays in the same view for others.  ?

You can reset to stock view schemes in the View > Add View Scheme menu.

Or you can configure the root scheme and uncheck 'Allow tree selection.'

I've been wondering about this a bit recently too...
What are Ctrl+E & Ctrl+F supposed to do?  I get varying results, depending on variables that I have yet to determine.

Good question. Anyone got any thoughts?
