couple of bugs?
« on: June 07, 2002, 01:07:12 am »

2 relatively minor things I've noticed since I upgraded to version 8:

1) when I start MJ while having one or more programs already running, it always pops up *behind* the open window(s).

2) when running a track info plugin I keep seeing these constant 'flashes' in the display window every few seconds. It's as iff the plugin screen is constantly refreshing itself.

Comments? Ideas?

Make sure you have the latest version from our downloads page.

On the video problem, all visualizations?  Try updating the video driver.

Have the latest version (updated yesterday) and the problems haven't changed. Also am running the latest video drivers for my card (Radeon 64 VIVO)

Ok, feel real dumb now, was just palying with the video issue and realized it was mouse movement in the window which popped the scroll bar for changing plugins up and down which 'refreshed' the window.

But the issue of MJ not starting in the foregound is still there.

It's not a big issue but it is somewhat annoying.

Thanks for the reply though.

The foreground issue is probably also something else.  If you have 8.0.293, it is pretty mature now, and I don't remember that problem ever being reported.

Did you try other skins or disabling skins?

You can copy your system info from MJ/Help and then paste it here.  Maybe someone will see something.

Here's the system info:

Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.293
Install Path: E:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium III 895 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 785 MB, Free - 502 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows 2000  Workstation 5.0 Service Pack 2 (Build 2195)

Internet Explorer: 5.50.4807.2300
ComCtl32.dll: 5.50.4807.2300
Shlwapi.dll: 5.50.4807.2300
Shell32.dll: 5.00.3502.4718
wnaspi32.dll: 4.70 , ASPI for Win32 (95/NT) DLL, Copyright © 1989-2001 Adaptec, Inc.
Aspi32.sys: 4.70

Seems to be an issue with or without skins (don't generally use them).

Did you install the full (9MB) version?

I did for first final release version (8.0.289?) but not for the update to the 293 version.

Should that make a difference?

I'll try installing the full version of 293 and see if that makes a difference.

Nope. Same problem. If I have a window or windows open when I start MJ it opens behind the other windows.

Something is strange.  Are you double clicking when you should be single clicking?  I'm not trying to blame you.  I just have no other ideas.

Try disabling all the other software running.  Also any plugins like slide show or album view that MJ is using.

Are you running as the user you installed it as?

If you still can't solve it, start a new thread with a subject that describes the problem.  Someone may recall having a similar problem.

S'ok, I appreciate the effort on your part. Sorry, not double clicking.

> Try disabling all the other software running. Also any plugins like slide show or album view that MJ is using.

Nothing running in the background when this happens except ZoneAlarm Pro (don't use real time virus scanning or anything else like that).

Also tried it with and without skins, plugins like you mention and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Don't understand it myself as with ver. 7 it opened in the foreground just fine.

> Are you running as the user you installed it as?

Yep. I always run as administrator as no one else uses my computer.

> If you still can't solve it, start a new thread with a subject that describes the problem. Someone may recall having a similar problem.

Ok, I'll try a new thread. As I said before, it's not a major issue to me, simply an annoyance.

BTW, I was looking through the registry to see if I could find a key that might be related to starting in the foreground but nothing turned up. Do you, perhaps, know of any such reg key

No.  I'm going to close this thread.

Try talking with Charlemagne8 to see if you can find any software you run in common.

Good luck.
