Globally save all view schemes & the Rules they use?
« on: March 24, 2011, 08:42:51 am »

Is there a way to save all view schemes without having to open each one and save it individually? Similarly, is there a way to include all view scheme rules in the "export all playlists"?

A library backup.

If you need to restore, but not restore the file data, simply restore the whole thing, and then clear out all of the files after the fact.

I should have gone ahead with all the details I had originally posted and then removed.

The reason I would like individual text files of all the rules used in my view schemes (just as all smartlists can be exported) is that I can make global changes on text files that I cannot make within MC.  For example, I had created a new fields and applied them to dozens of view scheme rules. Then I realized that the fields were not working out for me and I needed to modify all view schemes that searched for [Film Subgenre], [Cooking Subgenre], and [Woodworking Subgenre] and replace them all with [Subgenre].  This kind of thing can't be done within MC.

Ahh... I think you're stuck then, unless someone knows how to parse the library files directly.  They're binary though, so that wouldn't be easy.  You'd probably need to have some sort of custom plugin for MC.

All JRiver would have to do is include all smartlists in a Playlist export, including those used in View Schemes. The mechanism is already there to save the individual smartlist (within schemes). Surely they can be added to the global export.  At least I think that's all that is involved. I ain't no programmer ;)
