there is a problem connecting to the servor?
« on: March 23, 2011, 09:11:45 am »

hi ,

after a trial period I have just bought v16 after a trial period although trial version was 15 - registered version still shows v15. I have been away at a cottage all week and took my laptop and music library with me. The laptop and smartphone connect to the wifi router ok but I am getting the above message when I try to use my phone as a remote. The correct access code is been used. The thing is it worked fine the first night but not now and I haven't changed any settings? Any thoughts? Could it be the firewall and if so what do I do to rectify it?

cheers JAMIE

I am not exactly sure how the access code works as I don't use it.
However I assume it uses the server IP, if that is the case you could
rectify your problem by setting both routers the same based on the mac
address of your laptop and phone.
I just use my lan/wan IPs instead of the access key, I have assigned
static IP adresses for all of my devices and setup port fowarding on my
router, my ISP also supplies me with a static IP.
IMHO this works better because it will never be affect by location or any
other change as I can quickly alter settings in my router.
Just a thought and I could be totally off base.

On the server, in the options for Media Network, set up a login and password.

Help still needed!
« Reply #7 on: April 27, 2011, 02:22:58 am »

hi all,

I am still struggling to understand the steps I need to take to rectify this problem. I only purchased the v15/16 so that I had the remote option on my mobile phone but I don't have that luxury at the moment. Can anyone talk me through how to access my server and create a user name/password? It sounds simple but I have been unable to get an answer from other forums either. HELP!

cheers Jamie

On the server, go to Tools/Options/Media Network.  There you must set up your login once.  Also get an Access Key there.

On the client, enter the Access Key, and you will be asked for the login/pw.

Oh maybe you're thinking of the server as ours.  In this case, it's the PC you're connecting to.

thanks Jim. If I have understood this right then I need to go the tools/options/media network in the J River software. I am not at home at the moment but will try this out later tonight.

Your last point has confused me though - I am connecting to my laptop, so I assume that's where I access J River software and do what you have highlighted above?
