Sorting Problem
« on: April 14, 2011, 12:55:34 am »

I've noticed in MC 16 that I have a sorting problem.  I ripped 4 CD's with EAC.  I imported them all at the same time (the all have the same date & time stamp under Date Imported).  When I select track, album, artist and then date imported one of the 4 albums is no longer grouped together but it is split with tracks 7-11 next album then tracks 1-6.  As I scroll down to other albums this is repeated throughout my catalog.

I have noticed this for several release of 16.

Thanks,

Does this help?

Basically, it suggests that while [date imported] does not display seconds data, it does store them, and they are used when sorting the field. The linked thread demonstrates a method to circumvent this issue using a cutom library field.

Marko:

Thanks for a solution.  It is more trouble than I care to go to.  The question in my mind is does MC import an entire folder at one time or can it be importing files from multiple folders at the same time?

I would think that the info stored in the date imported would be limited to date only.  I really do not see the value of storing hours minutes and seconds.  There is such a thing as too much detail.

You might like an "album thumbnails on top (sorted by date imported) & file list on bottom (normal sort order)" view. When you select an album thumbnail on the top area the bottom list will display only the files from the selected album.

AlexB:

Those are good alternatives.  I like the detailed view as I do a lot input to files after they are imported.  I look up the year the song was released, chart info, etc.  It seems to me that it would be easy to simply sort on date only as opposed to date and time.  I usually rip 10 to 20 CD's at a time and then work through them with the final pass of rating the song.  Maintaining a clean database is a passion for me.  The tools available in MC make it easy to do.
