Ripping a CD closes down my media center

Every time I try to rip a CD my Media Center locks up and I have to end the session. I have tried installing and reinstalling with the same result. I am running Vista. Is there anything on my system that could be a known cause of this?

Possibly virus checker running to scan the newly created files?

Also, perhaps a corrupted disk?  Schedule a complete scan of the disk where the media is being ripped, and reboot.
