Media Center 16.0.77 adds the ability to use high-quality fan artwork from TheTVDB.com as background images in Theater View.

The feature is enabled by default and will be used any time you view a file or list of files in Theater View that have the same value in the 'Series' database field.

Like other online media slideshow features, it can be configured in Options > Theater View > Theme.

Nice one! Could the same thing be done with movies together with themoviedb.org? I'd love some more manual control on art for different media types in the future. This will do very well while I wait though

Ideally you should be able to (in addition to this automatic method) configure MC to use different file types (in folders or in specific folder like album art) for different media types.

Working well so far - thanks Some very quick questions:
  - does MC save the TVDb URL (or series code) anywhere for future lookups? Or is the search performed each time? Can the correct entry be manually stored somewhere for series with identical names?
  - might you offer a way to save the art locally (perhaps in separate banner, poster, background folders near the files)?

The Theater View changes that is coming over the next builds (16.0.77 ++) is implementing some new stuff for Theater View. This also means that some old stuff will be broken/removed, and changes between this versions will probably not stick. So, I think that J River want to wait with this builds until they are final.

Perhaps a stable release will be posted within a week or two? Who knows.

This is a nice new addition.  If I may be so bold to suggest and couple of (simple) suggestions ...

... keep a cache and pop up the last used image immediately.  When you are browsing it takes a while for the image to come up, and if you are skipping around quickly you don't get that nice instant picture

... use the same image above as a background when browsing by "series" (i.e. as I skip from one series to another in a view grouped by series, the background should be changing (quickly)).

... have series images saved into a coverart directory for "series" as you do for artists.  Then have an option to show either download images, or just use the coverart directory image, or use the cover art image immediately and then download others after a few seconds.

[then do the same thing for season (being a sub directory in the "series" coverart directory)

forgot to say that if we get series (and season??) images to be saved like artists, it would obviously be nice to have them available in the standard view also.
