What did MC do to my MP3 tags?
« on: May 13, 2011, 11:25:13 am »

MC (currently running latest version of 16) did something in the way it organizes my audio.  It hasn't actually altered the tags, but it displays things oddly.  For example, all of my John Cougar Mellencamp songs are tagged with Artist: "John Cougar Mellencamp".  I have verified that the tags have not been touched.  But within Media Center's Pane view, his albums are divided among: John Mellencamp, John Cougar, and John Cougar Mellencamp - even though all tags for all songs are under "John Cougar Mellencamp".  This same type of thing has happened for a number of artists.

What happened and how can I undo this?

Thanks,

Kyle

Have a look at all the following tags - you can add them as a column to a view to see them, or use the action window using "Show all tags":

Artist
Album Artist
Album Artist (auto)

Compare the differences between these.

That was it. I just changed the middle pane to Artist from Album Artist and that fixes the view.

How/why were those auto-populated?

Thanks!

Not clear what happened in the past w/out evidence, but we can probably assume that Album Artist tags were added at some point and the view is showing Album Artist (auto).
