Howdy,

I almost have my v16 upgrade completed but I have one more v15 library out on the server that needs some attention. I found out the hard way with my main library that when it's actual files (in my case \\SERVER\Music\Library Files) were added as a "new" library in v16 and opened in v16 at least once - when I attempted to open that library again in v15 - I had a series of messages saying the library could not be loaded (wrong format or unreadbale or similar).

Right then and there I realized that once v16 touches the files - it seems to upconvert to it's own v16 format and leaves other versions in the dust...

So - is there any way I can check out this last remaining library in v16 or must I resort to having to reinstall a copy of v15?

v16 upgrades a v15 (or earlier) library on load.  v15 will no longer be able to load it after that.  An automatic backup is created when a library is upgraded.

We always offer backwards compatibility, but forwards compatibility. 

Forwards compatibility would require a locked format so that we couldn't make things faster or more powerful in a new version.  Or it would require a time machine.  Yaobing, our resident physics professor, is working on the time machine.

So load up a copy of v15 then?

And that automatic backup - where is that stored? Same spot as the main "backup" location? Is it this one - stored with a special v16 inserted into the name?

Why don't you just make a backup of your current library, ctrl-c it, and open up the new copy in V16, leaving the other copy in all its original V15 goodness?

Too late for that. While testing v16 along side of v15 (until the "official release" was announced - I have v16 simply hitting it's default library. But when the official announcement came - I created a new library and pointed it directly at a folder called \\SERVER\Music\Library Files. These files are the masters and I do this so each and every client gets the same layout, playlists, fields etc etc. (Library server attempts non-withstanding over here...long story)

But without realizing the danger - off I went. And only when I tried to open v15 again (of course pointed to the same spot) did I get the message about "can't read this thing"

But - this last v15 library out on the network remains untainted by v16 and I need to check it out, moves some stuff etc etc...I guess I will have to put v15 back on for a bit....
