windows XP and users

I have installed XP as the Administrator user
unders window XP and executed the .mjr file.

It does not show up when I log in under the
account that I usually use for all my work
which is different than the Adminstrator account.

Questions:
1.  Does MJ run under windows XP?
2.  If so why don't the items appear on the menu?
3.  Is it possible to use MJ with a "Limited" account on XP?
4.  What is the proper way to install it on XP so
that different accounts can use it?  Is this restricted
   by the licensing?

Thanks.

>> 2. If so why don't the items appear on the menu?
Like?

>> 3. Is it possible to use MJ with a "Limited" account on XP?
Yes, You Can Use It For 30 Days With Plus Options, If You Buy It You Can Stop Using It Any Time You Want

>> 4. What is the proper way to install it on XP
Click On The File Twice It Will Install Under That Account, LogOn As Another User And Install Again

>> Is this restricted by the licensing?
If You Buy It you Can Use It On All Your Computers, You Can Not Give Away Your Key To Others.

Hi King,

I looked at my first message and it was not so clear.
So here is some more information.

I have bought MJ.  I have the *.mjr file.  I execute
this under the account that I installed the software (the Administrator)
account. Everything is fine and the program is registered.
It runs great under the Administrator account.

I logon to another account which is a "Limited" account.
The MJ items do not appear in the start menu.  I have not
tried to install MJ under this account with "Limited"
priveledges since you can't install program with a Limited account.
If I try to run the *.mjr file it fails because of a registry write error.

If I give this second account ADMIN priveledges and repeat the
installation everything works fine under the new account.
IF I THEN TAKE AWAY THE ADMIN priveledges (after installation
is complete) and try to run MJ, it crashes.

Normally when you install a program on XP under the Administrator
account it appears for ALL the users of the machine.

The MJ items do not appear in the start menu. I have not
tried to install MJ under this account with "Limited"
priveledges since you can't install program with a Limited account.
If I try to run the *.mjr file it fails because of a registry write error.

You will need to install MJ for each account.  You can use the Install Key for multiple accounts for two weeks.  You must first install MJ 8.0 and then use the Install Key.

Our FAQ might tell you more about the license.

Hi King,

I did the install on the new account and I also
installed the LICENSE under the new account.

Everything worked fine.  I was pleased.

I then went and removed the administrative
priveledges from the account and made the
account a "Limited" account.

Now when I run MJ it crashes after 5 minutes
gives me all these multi colors and pops
up a web page accusing me of using illegal
software.

Try installing the license again without giving it admin priveleges.

I tried doing the installation of the *.mjr
license file on the new account once I
had removed the administration priveledges.

I recieved an error indicating that the
installation of the *.mjr could not write to
the registry.

This might help others that have XP with more than one user on the same syst.

I have two accounts on mine, one for me(admin)and one for my duaghter (limited).
I went into windows explorer on my account and selected the MJ launch icon and copied it, I then cut/paste the icon into my daughters documents folder (all other users on same syst will show up in the admins windows explorer window).then I logged into my daughters account and moved the short cut copy to the desktop and was done, I did not need to install twice but you need to go into ssettings and set the folder containing MJ as a shared folder in the network and all will be a carbon copy. Hope this will help others.

Same Problem with WIN 2000

Installed MJ 8 on administrator account

Run it (just for test) in administrator account -> works perfectly

Tried to run it in my normal (restricted) account -> MJ craches with some wired colours.

I even opened the whole MJ programm directory for write access for the restricted account (this has helped to run all other problematic programms as restricted user)- did not help.

Not being able to run under a restricted account makes MJ useless for me (and surely for lots of other serious PC users)

I had the same problem with Win2000 pro. The workaround I found was the following:

1/ I install MJ completely as Administrator

2 For each user:
 > I log as Standard User,
 > I Uninstall MJ (Keep data)
 > I re-install MJ (It generate an Error on WMA installation but create no problem)
 > I relogon

It seems working on my system

To JimH:

What are the reasons for making MJ not conform to Windows installation standards (i. e. install once as admin, use as any user)?

Are there technical reasons? Never seen that with any other program?

Regard

JimH,

MJ8 ist certainly a great program and I love it, but this is certainly its greatest weakness, that it does not install the way, users expect a Windows program to install.
And it might upset quite a number of new users, especially on XP, where you can have logons for all your family members. To reinstall for every user account is certainly not the state-of-the-art in the Windows world. Every imaginable freeware tool performs better than MJ on this. As it has already been mentioned in a few threads before, it is not a big issue to adhere to this standard. It is not a secret how to do it, Microsoft describes the process in MSDN to a great length.

I feel, this is one great reason to go on working on a 8.1 release of MJ.

The second reason would be to support the underlying concept of shared and user specific music directories in XP, so that a family can have a shared music folder for everybody and each user account its own music files in their individual music folders.

This is a wish that has been mentioned many times and I simply cannot understand why there is such reluctance to implement it.
