Ripping - long folder/file names fails
« on: June 23, 2011, 06:16:38 pm »

MJ14.0.166 on Win7 Home Premium 7601 SP1 64bit

Trying to rip Seether's "Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray (Deluxe Edition)" with the following settings....

File Location\Ripping, Recording & Other Audio
  • C:\Users\%username%\My Music
  • Folder Rule: [Artist]\[Album]
  • Filename rule: [Track #] - [Name]

Even changing it to just C:\ fails. I had to remove the artist\album setting and just make it manually C:\test\

So obviously there's a limit on the length of the folder structure - what is it?

But preferably MJ would auto cut this (like iTunes does) if there is a limit. But given that Windows has a limit of 256 (from memory) I don't see why this is a problem.

Thoughts?

You're not running into file name (256) or path (32,767) length limits, unless your username is exceptionally lengthy (you'd see issues elsewhere).

Perhaps there is some invalid char in either Artist or Album.  For good measure, also check the Name fields.

Nope. Username is only 5 characters.

No unusual characters anywhere.

Album is Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray (Deluxe Edition)
Tracks are (like all Seether albums, short and simply)

Found it.

Screenshot shows album (from CDDB or whatever is used) as Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray (Deluxe Edit... but when I edit the CD info it was actually Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray (Deluxe Edit
Ion)

Looks like there was a carriage return (if that's possible) in the name from the online CD database. All fixed now.
