Problems playing Audio m4b files.
« on: June 26, 2011, 01:05:42 pm »

Recently upgraded to 119, I don't know if that has anything to do with my problem.

I am getting an error message when I try to play any of my m4b files.
The error is following:
" you may not have installed on your computer direct show filters for decoding these files you wish to play."

OK how do I update my direct show filters or add the necessary filters.

previously m4b files seemed to play OK.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Do you have a sample you can post?

I'm happy to test it out for you, if there is no DRM.  I don't have any audiobooks from Apple.

We consider M4B a protected Apple file.  By default, we use QuickTime for these files (which you would need to install separately).

If the M4B is unprotected, does it play if you rename it to M4A?

Are most M4B files protected?  If not, we could always play them with our native M4A plugin, but then M4B files with DRM would not work.

M4B files from Apple CAN use FairPlay.  I've heard on podcasts that MOST do not, but I don't know if that is true or not.  Either way, there would be no way to tell before you buy them, so I don't buy them.

The m4b files are not drm protected. They are books that I have found that were formatted for ipod use.
The files are usually 75mb or larger and come in 2 parts. I am not sure how I can share them with you good folks as they are 2 big for me to email.

One of the first things I tried to get them to play again was to change there extension to m4a same error.
They were playing fine for months till I upgraded to 119, I need to test with the latest build however.

There are lots of file sharing sites on the Internet.  MegaUpload is one.
