MC16 Crashes During File Conversion

I had to convert the roughly 5000 files (around 100 GB) in my library from FLAC to WMA Lossless.  The source and destination files reside on a NAS with a hardwired LAN connection.  MC16 is able to convert 250-500 files at a time before crashing.  Then needs to be hard reset using ctrl-alt-delete and started up again, upon which I can start up converting again where I left off.  Why does this happen?  Is there a way to keep it from crashing?

Not sure if this is related but just a reminder that I reported many months ago that building several hundred WMV thumbnails consistently crashes MC.
