Gizmo UI wishes...
« on: July 12, 2011, 09:44:21 am »

Hi,

this is my first post in this forum and I hope that I found the correct spot to post my question.

Since the UI changes in GIZMO the usability for me is much worse than before. I have an extensive collection of classical music and I organize my music by composer and work (with quite some custom fields based on the recommendatioons here in the forum). Now if I use GIZMO the text below the object icons is VERY short compared to the list style that was used before. So what happens when I browse to the composer Bach?

I have:

Bach, Johann Sebastian
Bach, Johann Bernhard
Bach, Johann Christian
Bach, Johann Christoph Friedrich
Bach, Johann Ludwig
Bach, Johann Michael

guess what I see in GIZMO on my Samsung Galaxy Smartphone displayed below the icons:

Bach, Johann
Bach, Johann
Bach, Johann
Bach, Johann
Bach, Johann
Bach, Johann

that's quite annoying and it goes on when I found the right Johann Sebastian and navigate to works starting with prelude & fugue... the same problem again. It would be great to have an option to switch back to the list style from the "old" GUI or to have a kind of automical text scroll for longer texts. I tried to use landscape orientation and hoped for longer texts, but not better :(

Don't know whether this is a classical music only problem... Maybe you can find a way to solve this with a future update?

Thanks
Klaus

I have this exact same problem and I would appreciate some way to see full names.

Thanks,

I also have this problem and have posted requests for for a list option. No response so far, kinda frustrating.

I hope they are able to do something for us on this issue soon because the app works wonderfully otherwise. I just got myself and ID and the whole setup words great for me! Love it!!!

+1. Some form of auto scrolling or scrolling when you drag your finger on the track name is necessary.

Have you seen anything with regards to wrapping / scrolling text in other apps that you like that you might point us towards?

Thanks.

Hi Matt, thanks for checking in on this. Simply having a list view as an option would be a great start. As far as an auto-scrolling feature as mentioned by dNj, one example would be my IPod Video which auto-scrolls the title of any highlighted list item when that title is too long to show in the available space.

If I could choose I'd rather have an option to switch to a list style view as opposed to scrolling text.

Thanks for taking up on this!

I have not seen anything in other apps but here is a thought. The grid could look like following: Each square is the album thumbnail and the "LN1", "LN2", "LN3" are lines of texts referring to Artists, Albums etc.

Code: [Select]

+-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+
|     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |
|     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |
+-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+
  LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1

+-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+
|     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |
|     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |
+-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+
  LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1
  LN2      LN2      LN2      LN2      LN2      LN2
  LN3      LN3      LN3      LN3      LN3      LN3

+-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+
|     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |
|     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |
+-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+
  LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1

+-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+
|     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |
|     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |
+-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+
  LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1
  LN2      LN2      LN2      LN2      LN2      LN2

+-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+
|     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |
|     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |
+-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+
  LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1
  LN2      LN2      LN2      LN2      LN2      LN2
  LN3      LN3      LN3      LN3      LN3      LN3

+-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+
|     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |
|     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |  |     |
+-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+  +-----+
  LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1      LN1

For each raw of the grid, the number of text lines is determined based on

1. the longest string to be displayed in that raw
2. font size
3. display resolution in the dimension of the raw

What I like about an arrangement like this is that the album thumbnails always stay of the same size (so, one is not reducing the album thumbnail to include more text in the same area). Also, it looks just like today for the common case (which is when only 1 line needs for text display).

I'd like to revive this thread, since it is some time now and things didn't improve for me.. :(

With WebGizmo available now and all the other improvements I wonder why nobody else is having issues with the lack of proper display of longer texts... This makes Gizmo completely unusable for me.

It even shows on the Wiki screenshots (upper left artist)

http://www.pix01.com/gallery/8D12431D-7EA0-495D-9EA2-775091458CB9/WebGizmo_2/bigpage.html?image=244200935_orig0.jpg#

I have no idea who Antonio Carlos J.... is  ;D , but imagine different Antonio Carloses with different surnames. Is there really no solution for this?

Regards
