DVD playback audio out of sync
« on: July 25, 2011, 08:06:36 pm »

I am having trouble with DVD playback and am losing hope that it will EVER work!!!  Any time I play a DVD, 2 things ALWAYS happen:

1.  The first few seconds of VIDEO are in slow motion, but the AUDIO is fine.
2.  A few seconds later, the video plays normally and the audio repeats those first few seconds, which now puts it out of sync!  (It was in sync before this, even with the slo-mo video).

I thought the new versions were supposed to fix this!  Needless to say, I have searched keywords until I am blue in the face and can find nothing on this issue.  Every DVD I have ever tried in MC does this.  I tried playing with settings some, but didn't really want to, because, isn't this what Red October was supposed to fix???  I have been dealing with this issue since at least MC14, and I am growing weary...

By the way, I even tried skipping to the next chapter, but each skip starts the chapter exactly with the 2 steps above.

MC version 16.0.128
Windows 7
CCCP codecs

Please try Options > Audio > WASAPI Event Style with 25 ms of buffering.

Wow...that seemed to work!  I tried it with my current DVD, even from the beginning, and it fixed it.  Thanks a million, but I have one obvious question: why did it not work with the original Red October settings?  And second, what the heck is WASAPI, and why did changing audio settings fix the video slo-mo at the start of playback?

Thanks for the quick responses!

OK, I went and read about WASAPI in the wiki, but I still have basically the same question.  If part of the basic underpinning for Microsoft's implementation was broken/buggy, why was my setting left as the default?  Or is it that my system in particular had the perfect storm of problems that necessitated the change for MY machine?

And, wow!!!, it's nice to be able to 'just play' a DVD!!! (My wife thanks you much more than I.)

What combination of audio output and buffer size was not working?

The default DirectSound + 500ms should work fine with DVD.  Is it possible you had increased that buffer size?  Or are you having problems even with 500ms?

Thanks.

I had never changed these particular settings before, so whatever the default would be is what I had at first.  I used to play with the DirectShow and DVD settings several versions ago (MC14 or 15 maybe?) but pretty much gave up on that, as I had really NO idea what those options meant!
